ABOUT OUR SEMINARS

These are designed for those who provide primary medical care to children and adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders.

  • Level 1 Practitioner Seminar: A two-day seminar for review of the scientific data supporting the medical treatment of autism spectrum disorders.

  • Level 2 Practitioner Seminar: This two-day seminar is designed for practitioners (with prior experience using targeted medical treatments) who want to hone their skills in laboratory interpretation and case management, or to discuss the nuances of difficult cases. (Completion of Level 1 is a prerequisite.)

OBJECTIVES - PRACTITIONER SEMINARS

  1. To identify common abnormal features found with patient history, clinical assessment, physical exam, and laboratory data that are relevant to and often associated with autism; many are amenable to targeted dietary and nutritional interventions.

  2. To review scientific data that form the foundation for clinical treatment of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, with a focus on immunological, gastrointestinal, and neurological functions.

  3. To discuss the current clinical applications of dietary and nutrition intervention in autism, reviewing the relevant research and case reports of each.

  4. To develop understanding of strategies for the nutritional evaluation and individualized treatment of patients with ASD, utilizing the principles of personalized care.

OBJECTIVES - SCIENCE SESSIONS

  1. To develop understanding of the utilization of fourth paradigm data to inform treatment decisions.

  2. To identify common abnormal gastrointestinal features found with patient history, clinical assessment, physical exam, and laboratory data that are relevant to and often associated with autism, with a particular focus on gastrointestinal flora.

  3. To provide brief updates on recent scientific research pertaining to melatonin, BH4, probiotics and prebiotics, mitochondria, cytokine analysis, cerebral folate, vitamin B6, oxidative stress, and nutrition and metabolism, specifically concerning their relevance to autism.

  4. To review scientific data pertaining to pre-conception, gestational, and perinatal influences on developing systems, and discuss appropriate parental prenatal nutrition.

Consistent with ACCME policy faculty for this educational activity are asked to disclose any commercial interest that may create or may be perceived as creating a conflict related to the material they will be presenting as well as limitations of clinical studies  presented and any "off-label" use suggestions for medical products.  This policy is intended to assist you in forming your own judgments about material presented.  Disclosure information will be included in your syllabus and/or verbally disclosed at the conference.
